Context of the mandate
Environnement Jeunesse is looking for new members to serve on its board of directors! We are seeking people from all walks of life and of all ages to ensure that the organization’s full diversity is well represented. Founded in 1979, Environnement Jeunesse is a nonprofit environmental education organization that takes a peer-to-peer approach, helping to foster a young generation of eco-citizens who are aware of environmental issues and equipped to take action in their communities. In 2023–2024, ENvironnement Jeunesse reached more than 400,000 young people and collaborated with more than 350 institutions across 16 regions of Quebec.
Tasks
Being a member of the Environnement Jeunesse Board of Directors means, among other things:
Desired qualifications
We are specifically looking for expertise in the following areas: We particularly encourage applications from individuals who identify with groups that, even today, face systemic oppression or marginalization. We place great importance on applications from Indigenous people, immigrants, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, people with disabilities, as well as those who identify with a community that is racialized or marginalized (this list is not exhaustive, and we recognize that these experiences can intersect). Applicants must become members of Environnement Jeunesse. Membership costs $25 for one year or $50 for three years.
Expected level of involvement
Commitments The Board of Directors consists of 12 members, including 3 youth seats for individuals aged 17 and under, as well as 9 regular seats. An annual work plan guides the activities of our committees, and members are encouraged to get involved in one or two committees (Governance, Communications, HR, Inclusion and Anti-Oppression, Finance).
