BOARD OF DIRECTORS POSITION - Nonprofit Management and Organizational Development Profile In keeping with the organization’s mission and values, the incumbent supports sound management and organizational development, taking into account the realities and obligations specific to nonprofit organizations and registered charities. The incumbent also supports the Executive Director in human resources management.
Tasks
RESPONSIBILITIES Organizational Management and Development Advises the Board of Directors and the Executive Director on the organization’s structure and its evolution in response to growth and organizational scaling Supports change management processes related to changes in the organization’s mission, programs, or structure Supports the assessment of organizational risks and the implementation of compliance and sound governance measures Ensures alignment between the organization’s culture, values, and management practices Keeps abreast of best practices in management and governance specific to nonprofit organizations and registered charities Supports the organization’s strategic and operational planning in collaboration with the Board of Directors Contributes to the assessment of organizational performance and the development of monitoring indicators (mission, programs, organizational capacity) Human Resources Management Support Advises the Executive Director on human resources best practices adapted to the realities and financial capacity of a nonprofit organization Ensures compliance with legal employment requirements (labour standards, occupational health and safety, employment equity) Supports the development of employee and volunteer engagement, recognition, and retention strategies adapted to the realities of the community sector
Desired qualifications
Desired Competencies Strong understanding of governance, organizational structure, and management issues specific to nonprofit organizations and registered charities Good knowledge of applicable procedures and legislation governing nonprofit organizations, including governance, employment, and compliance requirements Strategic vision and ability to support an organization through a period of growth and organizational scaling Strong interpersonal skills and ability to support and advise the Board of Directors and Executive Director Strong organizational, structural, and analytical skills Autonomy and ability to take initiative Team spirit and ability to mobilize others Sound judgment and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential matters Understanding of and sensitivity to issues specific to the community and charitable sectors, including mission-driven work, volunteer engagement, and limited resources Required Qualifications Degree in management, business administration, or a related field Governance training Experience in management or organizational development within a nonprofit organization or registered charity is a strong asset Knowledge of the obligations specific to registered charities, including reporting and regulatory compliance requirements, is an asset Professional designation in human resources (CPHR/CRHA) or equivalent experience is an asset Fluency in written and spoken French, Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Familiarity with the Microsoft 365 environment
Expected level of involvement
COMMITMENT A two-year commitment, including one Board of Directors meeting per month, as well as occasional additional meetings as required. Meetings are held virtually. Attendance at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) is expected. Board members are also expected to participate, as reasonably possible, in the organization’s activities and events.
