The Board of Directors (BoD) of the Centre d’écologie urbaine is launching a call for applications for six positions, including two open seats. The election will take place during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on December 10, 2025. To fulfill its mission, the Centre relies on a highly qualified, dynamic, and diverse Board of Directors, as well as on the active involvement of its members in committees and organizational initiatives. The Board of Directors and team of the Centre d’écologie urbaine led a strategic planning process for the 2023–2028 period. This plan sets the course for ambitious initiatives that will strengthen the organization’s maturity and affirm its leadership in urban ecology in Quebec. The Centre d’écologie urbaine builds citizens’ capacity to take action and strengthens communities’ and municipalities’ ability to work together to accelerate the implementation of solutions for human-scale, sustainable, and socially just cities. The Centre seeks to complement its Board with individuals who share this vision, focused on the impact of its mission and the strategic development of its organizational capacity. This summer, the Board of Directors adopted new bylaws redefining the categories of members and the composition of the Board. To foster collaboration across diverse areas of expertise and experience, organizations that support our mission and share the values of the Centre d’écologie urbaine can now become members and serve on the Board of Directors. Up to three organizations may hold Board seats, ensuring that individual members remain the majority. Partner members must designate a representative (a natural person) to sit on the Board on their behalf. The Centre d’écologie urbaine seeks individuals committed to creating ecological, healthy, and democratic cities. We are looking for individuals and organizations who share the Centre’s vision and desired impact, and who wish to contribute to achieving the objectives and strategies of the 2023–2028 Strategic Plan. Through this engagement, elected members will work collaboratively on several strategic projects. Their experience and skills will help promote a vision of the city that places people at the heart of decisions shaping resilient and sustainable living environments. The ideal individual candidate works within a nonprofit organization (NPO), public institution, or private company, and has a background or experience relevant to the nonprofit sector. They understand the challenges faced by growing organizations and wish to contribute their skills to the Centre’s scaling-up efforts. The ideal organizational candidate is a nonprofit or social economy enterprise engaged in the socioecological transition, rooted in the realities of Quebec’s cities and communities. It should bring complementary expertise to that of the Centre and uphold values of democracy, equity, and collaboration. The designated representative is an engaged leader with a strong understanding of urban, environmental, and democratic issues, capable of contributing actively to the Centre’s strategic and collaborative governance. To ensure a complementary range of expertise, the Centre d’écologie urbaine is especially seeking candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas: Finance, budgeting, and accounting: Experience supporting sound financial management (budget development and monitoring, regular reporting), implementing financial policies, and contributing to fundraising and risk management strategies. Human resources and compensation strategies: Experience in organizational and talent development to help the Centre strengthen its employer brand and support team growth. Marketing and philanthropy: Experience in social marketing, brand positioning, and diversified funding strategies to increase the organization’s impact and visibility. The person or organization will also help develop our membership and philanthropy strategies. That said, any member interested in getting involved is encouraged to apply. The Centre is committed to building a diverse and representative Board. Applicants from underrepresented backgrounds are strongly encouraged to submit their candidacy. To submit your candidacy, you must be a member in good standing of the Centre d’écologie urbaine by November 26, 2025, seven days before the AGM. To do so, you must: Become a member or renew your membership; Review the bylaws; Review the highlights of the 2023–2028 Strategic Plan. Please note that the first Board meeting will be held in January 2026, with an onboarding session beforehand. Board members are elected by the members gathered at the Annual General Meeting. The AGM will take place on December 10, 2025, in person, at the Centre d’écologie urbaine offices: The recruitment committee will contact candidates to explain the election process and answer any questions about Board involvement. The term is two years. Board positions are volunteer-based. Board meetings are conducted in French. The Board meets approximately six times per year, usually on Wednesday evenings, either in person (at the Centre’s offices) or in a hybrid/virtual format. Participation in at least one Board committee is expected. Contact us at info@ecologieurbaine.net2023–2028 Strategic Plan: Reconciling People, Nature, and the City
