This training explores volunteer management as a dynamic process based on communication, collaboration, and relationships.
Managing volunteers goes beyond supervision or control. It includes welcoming and onboarding, orientation, task training, providing tools and resources, ongoing learning, communication, support, feedback, quality monitoring, everyday recognition, maintaining connections with the internal team, and adapting management practices according to volunteers’ needs.
The training aims to strengthen volunteer autonomy, clarify roles and expectations, prevent confusion and tension, and contribute to a safe, effective, and engaging volunteer experience.
It also addresses the organization’s responsibilities toward volunteers: role clarity, risk prevention, safety, respect, prevention of tensions and psychological harassment, attention to psychosocial risks, accidents, mistakes, and situations where volunteers may exceed their scope of responsibility.
Participants will learn how to:
- Recognize the components of clear, human-centered, inclusive, and proportionate volunteer management;
- Structure volunteer welcoming and onboarding processes;
- Distinguish between orientation, task training, providing tools and resources, and ongoing learning;
- Adapt the level of management according to roles, needs, experience, autonomy, and risks;
- Foster a collaborative dynamic based on clarity, trust, and respect for roles;
- Use communication and follow-up strategies;
- Integrate simple practices of recognition, gratitude, and appreciation into daily interactions;
- Intervene when a volunteer misunderstands their role, exceeds their scope of responsibility, disengages, or requires adjustments.
