Corporate volunteering is a powerful force just waiting to contribute to your mission. This training helps community organizations understand and structure the hosting of corporate group volunteers as well as skills-based and governance volunteering (entrepreneurs and employees supported by their employer).
By the end of this training, you will be able to:
- Clarify the forms of corporate volunteering (group, skills-based, governance) and when to use each effectively.
- Set clear, realistic expectations (objectives, deliverables, roles, timeline) and communicate them effectively to company partners.
- Welcome a corporate group in ways that build a lasting connection with your organization (welcome rituals, mission context, site visit, storytelling).
- Provide right-sized support: prepare, supervise, assist, debrief, and recognize contributions (without overloading your team).
- Prevent pitfalls: avoid substituting a paid role, uphold ethics and safety, and address confidentiality and intellectual property.
- Adapt your tools (mandate brief, logistics checklists, recognition templates, thank-you messages).
- Measure and share impact (simple indicators, testimonials, photos/mini-reports) to nurture the relationship and encourage repeat engagement.
