Can you tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Marielle, I’m 19 and I live in Anjou. I was born in Haiti and lived in New York, but now my family lives in Montreal. At the moment, I’m a 1st year management student at UdeM. During the summer, I have some free time, so I decided to volunteer on the advice of my cousin, who met her husband that way! At first, I planned to volunteer at just one place, but in the end I was contacted by three organizations and said yes to all three!
How long have you been volunteering at CABM? What’s your role? And what do you like about it?
I’ve been a volunteer receptionist for the VBM for a month now: I take messages from organizations and people who want to volunteer, call people back or redirect them to team members. I’d say I help connect people. I love the human contact in this role and the warm environment of the VBM.
We know you’re an active volunteer. What other organizations do you give your time to?
This summer, I volunteered at the Festival international Nuits d’Afrique. I welcomed the artists and was in the dressing rooms with them to help out if anything was needed. I also started volunteering at Résolidaire, an organization in Hochelaga. I run the bingo for seniors. A friend of mine is also a volunteer there.
What are your plans for the future?
I’d like to find a job I love, and that’s why I’m considering a change of study, towards mechanical engineering... We’ll see!
