Context of the mandate

A senior living near Atwater Metro is looking for an experienced volunteer to help maintain her independence and stay engaged in the community. The volunteer will accompany her on errands and community outings while providing companionship and support.

The senior is always accompanied by her emotional support dogs. No pet care is required, but volunteers must be comfortable around dogs.

Through regular visits and outings, the volunteer will help reduce social isolation, encourage community participation, and support the senior's overall well-being.

Tasks

• Accompany the senior on errands and community outings.
• Provide support while using public transit, adapted transportation, or walking in the neighbourhood.
• Assist with carrying purchases or other light items when needed.
• Offer companionship and conversation during visits and outings.
• Help the senior maintain social connections and independence in the community.

Desired qualifications

• Experience working with seniors.
• Patient, compassionate, and dependable.
• Comfortable around dogs.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Comfortable accompanying someone in the community.
• English-speaking.

Expected level of involvement

• Approximately 2 hours per week.
• Flexible schedule to be arranged with the senior.
• A commitment of at least 4 months is preferred to allow a meaningful relationship to develop.
• Visits and outings will primarily take place during daytime hours on weekdays.
