Context of the mandate
Ever wanted to walk up to a stranger and ask them a question that sparks a meaningful conversation? Join us for Talk to a Stranger Week, starting November 24! We're looking for outgoing, curious, friendly volunteers to hit the streets, ask thought-provoking questions, and help capture spontaneous vox pop-style conversations during a special one-morning event! No journalism experience required — just a positive attitude, curiosity, and a willingness to connect with people! Your mission: Break the ice, build connections, and put a smile on Montrealers’ faces—one conversation at a time! Sometimes, one question can change someone's day.
Tasks
Approach strangers in a friendly and welcoming manner and engage them in short, spontaneous conversations on camera. Ask fun, interesting, or thought-provoking questions as part of our street interviews (vox pops). Hold posters to attract attention and promote the initiative. Hand out stickers to passersby. Encourage positive, inclusive, and respectful interactions. Work alongside the filming crew and respect anyone who prefers not to participate.
Desired qualifications
Bilingual (French and English) – comfortable approaching and engaging with people in both languages. Friendly, outgoing, enthusiastic, and approachable personality. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Comfortable speaking with strangers and appearing on camera. Ability to create a welcoming, positive, and inclusive atmosphere. Reliable, punctual, and available for the full shift (7:00 AM – 9:45 AM). Comfortable working outdoors and collaborating with a team. No previous experience required! Just bring your smile, curiosity, and positive energy!
Expected level of involvement
Time commitment: 3 hours Date: Tuesday, November 24, 2026 Time: 7:00 AM – 9:45 AM (volunteers must be available for the entire shift) Location: Place Ville Marie, downtown Montreal (Ville-Marie borough)
