Context of the mandate
The Valiquette Foundation is seeking enthusiastic, creative and friendly volunteers to help make our annual Halloween celebration a fun and memorable experience for children and families in Côte-des-Neiges, Montréal. The event will take place on Saturday, 31 October 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We will have two dedicated activity rooms: Room 1 – Children ages 4–8: A welcoming space featuring a Halloween movie, popcorn, drawing, colouring, face painting and other age-appropriate activities. Room 2 – Children ages 9+ and adults: A festive space featuring Halloween-themed activities, face painting, candy, snacks and refreshments. We are looking for volunteers who enjoy interacting with children and can help facilitate face painting, creative activities, arts and crafts, and Halloween games. Our goal is to provide a safe, inclusive and memorable celebration for families in our community, particularly those who may face financial barriers to recreational opportunities. All necessary materials will be purchased and provided by the Foundation.
Tasks
Help prepare activity stations before the Halloween celebration begins. Provide Halloween-themed face painting for children, according to individual skills and experience. Assist children with drawing, colouring, arts and crafts, and other creative activities. Organise and facilitate simple, engaging Halloween-themed games. Suggest creative activities that could make the celebration even more enjoyable. Help children participate in activities in a safe, friendly and welcoming environment. Maintain clean and organised activity stations. Assist with putting away materials and cleaning activity areas after the celebration. Volunteers with face-painting experience or creative activity ideas are encouraged to advise us in advance of any supplies they would need so that we can purchase and prepare everything before the event.
Desired qualifications
We are looking for enthusiastic, friendly, patient and reliable individuals who enjoy working with children and families. Experience in face painting, arts and crafts, children's activities or event animation is an asset but is not required for all activities. Creativity, initiative, teamwork and a positive attitude are especially appreciated. Volunteers should be comfortable interacting with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds and be willing to follow basic safety and hygiene guidelines. We welcome volunteers who would like to contribute their own creative ideas. Halloween costumes are encouraged!
Expected level of involvement
This is a one-day volunteer opportunity on Saturday, 31 October 2026. Volunteer schedule: 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. (4.5 hours). The Halloween celebration will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Volunteers are asked to arrive at 4:30 p.m. to prepare activity stations and materials before families arrive. After the celebration, volunteers will help clean and restore the activity areas until approximately 9:00 p.m. All volunteers are invited to enjoy the festivities and are encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. No long-term commitment is required.
