Context of the mandate
About ADHARA ADHARA, formerly Continuité famille auprès des détenues (CFAD), has been supporting criminalized women and people from sexual and gender diversity communities, as well as their children, for over 40 years, guided by principles of social justice, non-judgment, and reintegration. Through its psychosocial and community services, ADHARA assists families often affected by incarceration, housing instability, poverty, stigma, parental separation, or involvement with youth protection services. Volunteer Role Summary The Activity Support Volunteer contributes, on an occasional basis, to the life of the day center, mainly on Saturdays. Under the supervision of the Coordinator, the volunteer supports the team in preparing and facilitating activities offered to women and children, while fostering a safe, respectful, and caring environment.
Tasks
More specifically, the volunteer may: Support the team with preparation, setup, and storage of materials; Help facilitate workshops (cooking, creative activities, thematic discussions, parent-child activities, etc.); Welcome participants and help create an inclusive, non-judgmental space; Provide support to children during activities; Help ensure safety guidelines are respected and maintain a positive group atmosphere; Collaborate with the team in a spirit of respect and solidarity.
Desired qualifications
ADHARA is seeking someone with training and/or experience in support or service roles within an organization working with highly vulnerable populations. Fluency in French is required, and English is a plus; ideally, the volunteer will have a valid driver’s license in Quebec. The diversity of tasks requires a variety of skills, so we are not looking for a specific skill set; the volunteer assignment will be tailored to the volunteer’s skills and aligned with our organization’s needs. We work with women who are involved with the criminal justice system or at risk of becoming so, as well as with their children. We ask everyone who works with us to commit to our feminist and intersectional approach in all aspects of our work—whether in the way we interact with colleagues or through our interactions with the people who use our services.
Expected level of involvement
8 hours per month, usually between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. if the activity takes place during the week, or on Saturday mornings or afternoons, depending on the day center's schedule.
