Context of the mandate
Join us in the fight against food waste! Every Wednesday, we receive unsold food (mainly fruits and vegetables), which is then added as the “Weekly Extra” to our weekly bags delivered to seniors living in public housing on the Plateau (through our “You’re the Chef” program). So you’ll have a real impact on the community! Launched in August 2021 in response to the CCGP’s desire to help combat food waste, the project to recover and repurpose unsold food is at the heart of our key programs. Each week, several volunteers work to collect, sort, and repurpose these unsold items, which are then used in our projects to tangibly address the issue of food waste. The goal is to raise awareness among citizens about the impact of the food system, as well as the power they hold as consumers.
Tasks
- Sort unsold food (inspect the food and compost any rotten parts; prepare fruits and vegetables by washing and cutting them, etc.).
- Following the instructions provided by our project manager, Louise, bag the unsold items you have sorted and prepared.
- Wash the dishes afterward and tidy up the workspace.
Desired qualifications
Must be able to work with ease in a kitchen. Must be resourceful and self-reliant.
Expected level of involvement
Wednesday afternoons, from about 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. We'd like to take turns with another volunteer, so every other Wednesday :)
