Context of the mandate

Welfare Avenue is a student-led registered charity that has delivered hot meals, food baskets, hygiene products and clothing to people facing homelessness and food insecurity in Montreal since 2020. Our Sunday events reach over 320 people each time across 7 shelter locations, carried by a community of 200+ volunteers.

We are looking for an HR Coordinator to help us recruit the volunteers who run Welfare Avenue. Working with our HR leads, you keep the recruitment pipeline moving: posting roles, screening applications, scheduling interviews and making sure every candidate gets a timely answer. It is a hands-on role for someone who wants practical HR and recruitment experience and enjoys talking to people.

Tasks

• Post open roles on CABM, LinkedIn and campus boards, and keep postings current;
• Screen applications and resumes against each role and shortlist candidates with the team lead;
• Schedule and sit in on interviews; send follow-ups and answers to every candidate;
• Keep the applicant tracker up to date in the Welfare Avenue Hub;
• Prepare the first steps of onboarding for new joiners (accounts, welcome message, first meeting);
• Help draft and update job descriptions with team leads;
• Reach out to past volunteers and student networks when a role is hard to fill.

Desired qualifications

• Studies or interest in human resources, management, communications or a related field;
• Organized and detail-oriented: nothing falls through the cracks;
• Clear, friendly written communication with candidates;
• Comfortable with Google Workspace, Slack and online forms; experience with an applicant tracker is a plus;
• Discreet with personal information;
• Bilingual French and English is an asset.

Expected level of involvement

Minimum 4 hours a week, long term (at least 3 months, ideally the full school year). Remote and flexible, with a weekly online HR meeting in the evening.
