Context of the mandate

Welfare Avenue is a student-led registered charity that has delivered hot meals, food baskets, hygiene products and clothing to people facing homelessness and food insecurity in Montreal since 2020. Our Sunday events reach over 320 people each time across 7 shelter locations, carried by a community of 200+ volunteers.

We are looking for a Fundraising Co-Lead to run the outreach and partnerships side of our fundraising, alongside our Fundraising Events Manager, who owns the event calendar (Flag Football Fundraiser, Rally Paper, Holiday Gift Basket Drive). You own the sponsorship pipeline, the recurring donor program and Welfare Avenue's presence on Montreal campuses, with two team members reporting to you on donor acquisition and donor engagement. You set direction, build relationships and represent Welfare Avenue externally; your team handles the day-to-day donor work.

This role suits someone with a marketing, partnerships or business development background who knows their way around student associations and wants real ownership of a fundraising strategy.

Tasks

• Co-lead the fundraising department with the Events Manager and keep the event and donor revenue streams working together;
• Build and own the sponsorship pipeline: warm outreach to past partners and cold prospecting of mission-aligned companies;
• Co-develop sponsorship packages and send sponsors a post-event impact report;
• Set direction for the recurring donor program (targets, segments, channels) and coach the two team members who run it;
• Grow Welfare Avenue's visibility on Montreal campuses through clubs, associations, campus media and partner events;
• Represent Welfare Avenue at networking events and conferences;
• Track donors, sponsors and campaign results, and report to the co-executive directors and the board.

Desired qualifications

• Background in fundraising, marketing, business development, sales or partnerships, ideally in a student or nonprofit setting;
• A network across student associations, university clubs or industry, or the drive to build one;
• Comfortable with warm relationship-building and cold outreach alike;
• A strategic thinker who can also execute and delegate;
• Organized and self-motivated across several projects at once;
• Bilingual French and English is an asset; grant writing experience is an asset.

Expected level of involvement

Minimum 6 hours a week, long term (at least 3 months, ideally the full school year). Hybrid: mostly remote, with a weekly online team meeting on Thursday evenings and in-person presence at our fundraising events and networking occasions in Montreal.
