Context of the mandate

Welfare Avenue is a student-led registered charity that has delivered hot meals, food baskets, hygiene products and clothing to people facing homelessness and food insecurity in Montreal since 2020. Our Sunday events reach over 320 people each time across 7 shelter locations, carried by a community of 200+ volunteers.

We are looking for an Operations Co-Lead to run our Montreal operations side by side with our current Operations Lead. The two of you share ownership of everything that makes a Sunday event happen, from planning and volunteer confirmations to the itinerary and the debrief, and you split the events and the weeks between you. You lead a team of coordinators, cooks, drivers and servers, work with our Program Development team on new programs (including our community kitchen pilot), and report to the co-executive directors.

This is a leadership seat with real ownership: your decisions shape how many people we reach and how well we treat the volunteers who show up for them.

Tasks

• Co-lead the Montreal operations team with the Operations Lead: weekly team meeting, task ownership, follow-through
• Plan each Sunday event end to end: roster, roles, supplies, pickups, meeting points and the itinerary sent to volunteers
• Confirm volunteers, run the event-day group chat and lead the team on the ground
• Liaise with shelter partners and suppliers to confirm event details
• Track supplies, attendance and lessons learned in our tools (Welfare Avenue Hub, ClickUp, Slack, Google Workspace)
• Turn Program Development plans into working operations, including the community kitchen pilot
• Help onboard new coordinators and team leaders, and build routines that make events repeatable

Desired qualifications

• Experience in event logistics, operations or volunteer coordination (student clubs and community events count);
• A calm organizer who likes checklists, timelines and clear ownership;
• A strong communicator who can lead a team of volunteers in person on a Sunday;
• Comfortable sharing leadership and dividing the work with a co-lead;
• Available in person in Montreal on events Sundays;
• Bilingual French and English is a strong asset for our Montreal communities;
• Reliable and mission-driven: you care about the people we serve.

Expected level of involvement

Minimum 6 hours a week, long term (at least 3 months, ideally the full school year). Events run on Sundays (morning and early afternoon) about every two weeks, with planning during the week on your own schedule and a weekly online operations meeting on Thursday evenings. Remote the rest of the time.
