Context of the mandate

Le Frigo de l'Est: Épicerie Comminautaire et Solidaire is dedicated to combating food waste in all its forms by promoting the recovery, redistribution, and reuse of resources. Every week, we collect food that is still perfectly safe to eat from stores, caterers, and various partners to redistribute it to our members.
To continue this vital mission, we are looking for volunteer drivers who want to make a tangible contribution to reducing food waste while supporting their community.

Tasks

• Collect food donations from our partners;
• Transport the food safely to Frigo de l'Est;
• Load and unload the collected food;
• Record donations (by unit or weight);
• Report any unusual situations regarding donations or transportation.

The food to be collected consists mainly of:

• Fruits and vegetables,
• Surplus food from caterers,
• Surplus food from food service operations and events.

Pickups generally take place in the following areas:

• East Montreal (primarily Pointe-aux-Trembles and Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve);
• Downtown Montreal;
• Old Montreal.

 

Desired qualifications

• Own a personal vehicle (preferably an SUV or minivan);
• Hold a valid driver’s license and auto insurance;
• Be reliable, punctual, and self-reliant;
• Be able to lift loads of 20 kg;
• Be eager to contribute to an environmental and community cause;
• Be courteous and professional when interacting with our partners.

Expected level of involvement

• Be available on call or for a set half-day each week, depending on your schedule;
• Use your own vehicle to make deliveries;
• Commit to completing the pickups assigned to you once you confirm your availability;
• Commit to at least 3 months.
