Context of the mandate

Volunteering at Maison Jean Lapointe means helping create a caring and respectful environment for people on their recovery journey, while providing practical support to our team and contributing to the day-to-day life of the Maison.

It’s an opportunity to:

• make a meaningful contribution to the Maison’s mission;
• put your skills, experience or time to good use;
• support the team with a variety of activities and tasks;
• play an active role in the life of the Maison;
• build connections and have a positive impact on the daily lives of the people who come to the Maison.

Tasks

As a volunteer, you will contribute to the day-to-day operations and community life of the Maison, while providing a caring and supportive presence for residents. Responsibilities may include informally supporting residents on their recovery journey, providing a reassuring presence in their living environment, accompanying residents on daily walks, running small errands for residents as needed, and answering phone calls during the reception staff member’s breaks.

Depending on the needs of the Maison, you may also help with residential life activities, contribute to maintaining a welcoming environment, and take part in various simple tasks that support residents’ well-being and community life.

Desired qualifications

We are looking for people who care deeply about the Maison’s mission and who want to get involved in a serious, respectful and compassionate manner.

Volunteers should:

• be comfortable with abstinence as part of the recovery process;
• demonstrate good listening skills, respect and discretion;
• want to help create an environment that supports recovery.

Have you previously received services at Maison Jean Lapointe? Your experience may provide an opportunity to get involved as a peer support volunteer. Some volunteer roles are specifically intended for people who understand the reality of recovery through their own experience.

Have you never received services at the Maison? Your contribution is just as valuable. Different volunteer opportunities are available based on the Maison’s needs, as well as your interests and skills.

Expected level of involvement

There is no minimum level of commitment required to volunteer at Maison Jean Lapointe. Volunteer opportunities are determined based on your availability, interests and the needs of the Maison.
