Context of the mandate

SURCY is a social economy enterprise dedicated to promoting the reuse of construction materials in Quebec.

As part of our projects, we are seeking an expert partner in building decontamination to help us assess the reuse potential of materials involving contamination issues, specifically wood affected by fungi, lead, and asbestos.

The goal is to better identify materials suitable for reuse, the necessary precautions, and situations requiring specialized expertise or intervention.

Tasks

• Assess the reuse potential of wood affected by fungal growth or moisture.
• Advise us on the presence and management of lead, particularly during material removal.
• Identify key asbestos-related issues within the scope of reuse assessments.
• Provide ad hoc assistance in evaluating specific cases and determining whether further expert analysis is required.
• Share simple methods to enable our team to better identify these issues in the field.

Desired qualifications

Experienced professional or retiree specializing in decontamination or deconstruction, with expertise in contaminated wood, lead, and/or asbestos, interested in developing a partnership with SURCY.

Expected level of involvement

Flexible-duration partnership; remote work possible.
