Context of the mandate
We are looking for volunteers to support our team in the center's daily activities.
Tasks
- Help serve and hand out meals to residents.
- Set up the dining area before meals and clean up afterward.
- Wash, dry, and put away dishes and kitchen items.
- Clean tables, counters, and work areas, and help keep the kitchen clean and tidy.
- Help with laundry, including washing, drying, folding, and putting away clothes and linens.
- Sort donated clothing by type, size, and condition.
- Fold, organize, and put away donated clothing so it is easy to access and distribute to residents.
- Keep the laundry room and storage areas clean and organized.
- Restock supplies and other essential items when needed.
- Help the team with other daily tasks to keep the centre running smoothly.
- Follow the centre’s hygiene, cleanliness, and safety guidelines.
Desired qualifications
- No specific education or previous experience is needed.
- Feel comfortable working in a shelter for women experiencing homelessness.
- Be caring, respectful, and open-minded.
- Enjoy working with others and lending a hand when needed.
- Be reliable and show up on time.
- Be organized and take pride in your work.
- Be comfortable with hands-on tasks and staying active.
- Be willing to learn and follow instructions.
- Respect the privacy and dignity of the women staying at the shelter.
- Most importantly, enjoy helping others and making a positive difference in their day.
Expected level of involvement
The center is open 7 days a week. This volunteer opportunity is based on your availability, Monday through Sunday between 7:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
- Around 6 to 10 hours a week.
- We’re flexible and happy to work around your availability and the centre’s needs.
- Hours can be spread over 2 or 3 days a week.
- Daytime and evening shifts are both available.
- Ideally, we’re looking for someone who can stay involved for at least 3 months.
