Context of the mandate

Fabrique familiale La Cabane is a community space where children and families take part in creative, social and culinary activities. Attendance increases on weekends, and our team needs additional support to help the kitchen and meal service run smoothly.

The volunteer will help prepare simple dishes, serve food, wash dishes, organize supplies and keep the kitchen clean. Their contribution will help us provide a welcoming environment, maintain a clean and safe space, and improve the experience of the families who visit La Cabane.

The volunteer will work in collaboration with our team. They may also support culinary workshops for young people, always under the supervision of the staff member responsible for the activity.

 

Tasks

The volunteer’s main responsibilities will include:

• helping prepare snacks and simple dishes;
• setting up equipment and work areas;
• assisting with food service;
• clearing and cleaning tables;
• washing dishes;
• organizing food, utensils and kitchen supplies;
• cleaning work surfaces and keeping the kitchen organized;
• following food hygiene and safety instructions;
• occasionally supporting culinary workshops for young people under the supervision of the staff member responsible for the activity;
• promptly reporting any equipment, hygiene or safety concerns to the team.

The expected result is a clean, functional and well-organized kitchen that allows our team to welcome children and families appropriately.

 

Desired qualifications

We are looking for someone who:

• is at least 15 years old;
• is punctual, reliable and able to honour their commitments;
• is resourceful and able to work independently;
• works well as part of a team;
• is comfortable in a community environment attended by children and families;
• is willing to complete a variety of kitchen, food service, dishwashing and organizational tasks;
• pays attention to hygiene and safety requirements;
• can follow instructions provided by the staff member responsible;
• is interested in cooking, community service or working in a family-oriented environment.

Previous kitchen or food service experience is an asset but is not required. Orientation and instructions will be provided on site.

Adult volunteers may be required to complete a background check because children are present in the organization.

 

Expected level of involvement

Volunteer shifts take place on Saturdays and Sundays from mid-October through April.

The usual schedule is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., representing approximately four hours per day. Depending on the activities and the volunteer’s availability, it may be possible to stay until 3:30 p.m.

Volunteers may commit to one day, several days during the season or a more regular schedule. People who are available on a recurring basis are especially appreciated, as their continued involvement helps support the consistency of our activities.

We generally seek two volunteers per day. Schedules will be arranged in advance with each volunteer.
