Context of the mandate

We are actively seeking volunteers to go for a walk outside with a senior and/or to make friendly visits to their home.

The goal is to break the isolation of seniors in Petite-Patrie by developing connections with them, whether over a coffee or a walk around the neighborhood.

Tasks

• Visit an older adult in their home;
• Provide warm companionship and encourage interaction and conversation;
• Accompany the person on short walks, according to their abilities and pace;
• Encourage socialization and help break isolation;
• Suggest simple activities: board games, reading, conversation, etc.;
• Be attentive to the person’s well-being and expressed needs;
• Respect the senior’s habits, choices, and pace;
• Inform the team of any unusual situations or concerns regarding the person being supported;
• Maintain a respectful and professional relationship with the beneficiary;
• Adhere to confidentiality and safety guidelines.

Desired qualifications

• Enjoy interacting with people and feel comfortable around seniors;
• Be patient, respectful, attentive, and a good listener;
• Have a warm and positive attitude;
• Be reliable, punctual, and responsible;
• Enjoy walking and be able to accompany an older adult on walks adapted to their pace;
• Be comfortable chatting, playing games, reading, or simply spending time together;
• Respect the privacy and personal boundaries of the clients;
• Exercise good judgment and know how to report any concerning situations to the team.

*We require criminal background checks.

Expected level of involvement

A few hours per week or per month; minimum 3-month commitment
