Context of the mandate

Carrefour Parenfants is looking for volunteers to support children aged 5 to 12 in developing their reading and comprehension skills.

Through your listening, patience, and encouragement, you will directly contribute to a child's academic success while helping them develop their confidence and love of reading.

Tasks

• Support a child in reading age-appropriate books;
• Help them answer reading comprehension questions;
• Explain the meaning of certain words and enrich their vocabulary;
• Discuss the stories, characters, and themes with the child;
• Encourage the development of good study habits;
• Foster perseverance, independence, and a love of reading;
• Maintain a safe and supportive environment.

Desired qualifications

• Love children, reading, and children's literature;
• Have excellent spoken and written French skills;
• Are comfortable providing one-on-one support;
• Demonstrate patience, active listening skills, and kindness;
• Know how to encourage and motivate young people;
• Are reliable, punctual, and committed.

Expected level of involvement

Every Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., until June 10, 2026.
It is also possible, and even encouraged, to continue the adventure with a second term: From January 16 to June 9, 2027.
