Context of the mandate

Flood Hazard Mapping (Milton-Parc)

As part of a project aimed at better documenting the Milton-Parc area’s vulnerability to flooding, our organization would like to map the locations and infrastructure that could be affected.

A small committee of volunteers is already working on the project. We are looking for one or more additional people to help collect information in the field and plot it on a map.

Tasks

Depending on your interests and skills, you will be able to, among other things:

• explore the Milton-Parc area and take photos to document the sites;
• observe and identify areas at risk of flooding;
• locate buildings, roads, and other infrastructure that could be affected;
• compare your observations with existing vulnerability maps;
• record and organize the information you’ve gathered;
• help create or update a map showing areas at risk.

Desired qualifications

Above all, we are looking for someone who is:

• resourceful, self-reliant, and comfortable finding solutions using the tools at their disposal;
• interested in cartography, urban planning, geography, the environment, or the visual representation of data;
• who is comfortable using at least one tool for creating, editing, or annotating a map or plan;
• who is able to methodically observe an area and clearly document their observations;
• who enjoys collaborative work and wants to contribute to a concrete project in their neighborhood

Expected level of involvement

The project is run by a small committee of volunteers who contribute to its progress based on their individual availability.

Involvement is therefore relatively flexible: volunteers can participate in different stages of the project depending on their availability, interests, and skills.
