Context of the mandate

YWCA Résidenti’ELLE provides housing with psychosocial support to people who identify as women, whether they are single, single parents, or caregivers. Based on the values of respect, dignity, safety, and helping each woman reach her full potential, the program supports women experiencing hardship, violence, or housing instability, with the goal of promoting autonomy, well-being, and empowerment.

To allow mothers receiving psychosocial support to spend some time alone with their counselor, we are looking for three to four volunteers to provide a safe environment and keep young children engaged during their appointments.

Tasks

• Meet with the family and welcome the children, taking note of their needs.
• Lead age-appropriate activities for the children.
• Ensure the children’s safety and well-being.
• Put away the materials at the end of the activity.
• Inform the mother of any observations and provide feedback on the activity.

Desired qualifications

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Ability to speak and understand both French and English.
• Basic knowledge of early childhood development.
• First aid/CPR certification is an asset.
• Must consent to a criminal background check conducted by the organization.

PERSONAL QUALITIES

• Adaptability, ability to build positive relationships with children, patience, sense of responsibility, respect for confidentiality.

 

Expected level of involvement

Keep young children engaged for about 60 minutes while mothers meet with their counsellor for psychosocial support. Volunteers must also be available to meet with the family 15 minutes before the appointment

1 to 3 times per week in person
