Context of the mandate

The Dépanne alimentaire Centre-Sud is looking for a community kitchen host to join its team as part of a project aimed at preparing and distributing home-cooked meals to people with reduced mobility in the neighborhood.  

These kitchen workshops are run by two people : an employee and a volounteer to support him/her. 

Tasks

The person we’re looking for will notably be responsible for:

• Hosting cooking workshops in a friendly, inclusive, and participatory atmosphere;
• Helping participants prepare simple, accessible, and budget-friendly recipes;
• Encouraging everyone to participate, regardless of their cooking experience;
• Teaching basic concepts related to cooking, healthy eating, food storage, and reducing food waste;
• Getting the materials and ingredients ready for the workshops;
• Ensuring activities go smoothly and hygiene and safety rules are followed;
• Promoting exchanges, knowledge sharing, and the building of connections among participants;
• Adapting the facilitation to the needs and realities of participants;
• Collaborating with the La Dépanne team and contributing to the evaluation of activities.

Desired qualifications

We are looking for someone:

• Who loves to cook and wants to share their knowledge;
• Comfortable leading a group and creating a warm atmosphere;
• Energetic, independent, and organized;
• Attentive and sensitive to different social and cultural realities;
• Able to tailor their explanations to people with varying levels of cooking knowledge;
• Who enjoys community work and participatory approaches.

Expected level of involvement

Workshops take place on Wednesdays from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM, every other week. We ask that the volunteer be available on the following dates:

• September 9
• September 23
• October 7
