About Welfare Avenue

Welfare Avenue is a community organization led by students from diverse academic disciplines and educational institutions across Montreal and Ontario. Our team of staff and volunteers works collaboratively with partner organizations and community members to address the needs of vulnerable populations and help build a more inclusive and equitable future.

Position Overview

The Volunteer HR Technician provides administrative and operational support to the Human Resources function. This position offers an excellent opportunity for students, recent graduates, career changers, or HR professionals to contribute their skills to a meaningful cause while gaining valuable experience in the nonprofit sector.

Working closely with organizational leaders, the volunteer will support recruitment, onboarding, employee and volunteer record management, and a variety of HR initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment and Onboarding

• Assist with posting volunteer and employment opportunities;
• Review applications and help coordinate interviews;
• Support candidate communications and interview scheduling;
• Prepare onboarding materials and welcome packages;
• Assist with onboarding new volunteers and team members.

Human Resources Administration

• Maintain accurate and confidential employee and volunteer records;
• Assist in preparing HR documents, forms, and templates;
• Update and organize HR databases and tracking systems;
• Support the development and maintenance of HR policies and procedures.

Employee and Volunteer Support

• Respond to general HR-related inquiries;
• Assist in coordinating training, engagement, and development activities;
• Help foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative organizational culture.

Special Projects

• Participate in HR initiatives related to volunteer engagement, retention, and recognition;
• Support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives;
• Contribute to process improvement and HR documentation projects.

Qualifications

Required

• Currently pursuing or recently completed studies in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience;
• Strong organizational and administrative skills;
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage confidential information;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills;
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace.

Preferred

• Previous experience in Human Resources, administration, recruitment, or volunteer coordination;
• Knowledge of nonprofit organizations and volunteer management practices;
• Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
