The MISSIVE program is an intensive volunteer experience for students exploring careers in healthcare. Volunteers will work closely with staff in 2 public long-term care facilities: Donald Berman Maimonides Geriatric Centre and Donald Berman Jewish Eldercare Centre. Lectures, training, and Q&A with various healthcare professionals will be offered, participants will gain communication and bedside manner skills, and have an immersive experience in the public healthcare system. Volunteer placements may include Nursing, Recreation Therapy, Physiotherapy, Art Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Friendly Visits, and other special projects. The program runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9:00am to 4:00pm, from June 15th to July 10th. Applicants should be available to participate these 3 days per week for the duration of the program. Interview and background check are required, and training is provided.
