A 100% local, independent, and non-profit newspaper serving the boroughs of southwest Montreal. The board of directors of Nouvelles d’Ici is seeking engaged citizens who wish to volunteer their leadership and expertise to support our 100% local, independent, and community-based journalistic mission.

Launched on October 1, 2020, our media outlet is a qualified Canadian journalistic organization, a registered journalistic organization, and a member of the Quebec Press Council.

Successful candidates will actively contribute to the strategic direction and sustainability of the non-profit organization that publishes Nouvelles d’Ici, while strengthening its strong community presence and supporting its best governance practices.

Expertise and Profiles Sought

New members will be motivated by the mission of Nouvelles d’Ici. These individuals must reside or work in Lachine, LaSalle, Verdun, or the Southwest borough of Montreal. The board aims to fill one position primarily in Lachine and another in the Southwest borough, in accordance with its bylaws. Recently expanded to seven seats, the board of directors is seeking at least three new members. Individuals from underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply.

The skills particularly sought in interested candidates are:

Philanthropic development, crowdfunding, and grants: designing crowdfunding and institutional funding strategies;

Mission of Nouvelles d’Ici and Plan for 2026

NDI is a non-profit organization that works to strengthen local democracy by disseminating rigorous and accessible local news. Through its digital platform, this media outlet fosters social cohesion, networking, and collaboration within the boroughs it serves.

Its team is composed of professional and citizen journalists, an original and innovative formula in the Quebec media industry.

A recent strategic reflection exercise by the board of directors concluded with a clear and ambitious action plan. Implementing this plan will strengthen governance and structure NDI’s development.
