About ADHARA
For 40 years, ADHARA, formerly known as Continuité famille auprès des détenues (CFAD), has been supporting women involved in the justice system and people of diverse sexual and gender identities, as well as their children, with a focus on social justice, non-judgment, and reintegration.
Through its psychosocial and community services, ADHARA supports families often affected by incarceration, residential instability, poverty, stigmatization, parental breakdown, or intervention by youth protection services.
Summary of the volunteer role
- The volunteer supporting activities contributes on an ad hoc basis to the life of the day center, mainly on Saturdays.
- Under the supervision of the clinical coordinator, they support the team in preparing and running activities for women and children, promoting a safe, respectful, and caring environment.
Main responsibilities
More specifically, volunteers may:
- Support the team in preparing, setting up, and putting away equipment.
- Participate in workshops (cooking, creative activities, themed discussions, parent-child activities, etc.).
- Welcome participants and help create an inclusive and non-judgmental space
- Provide support to children during activities
- Ensure that safety instructions are followed and that everything runs smoothly
- Work with the team in a spirit of respect and solidarity.
Required profile
- Interest in community work and social justice.
- Sensitivity to the realities of women involved in the justice system, vulnerable families, and people of diverse sexual and gender identities.
- Ability to listen, be discreet, and non-judgmental.
- Reliability, sense of responsibility, and ability to adapt
- Ability to work well in a team
- Ability to communicate in French and English (conversational minimum)
- Experience in facilitation or working with children is an asset.
Terms of volunteering
- Occasional involvement, mainly on Saturdays, depending on the needs of the day center
- Participation in an orientation meeting
