Volunteer Role Description

Do you enjoy reading and want to make a meaningful difference in a child’s life? As a Reading Support Volunteer, you will share your love of books while helping a child develop reading and reading comprehension skills.

Through your caring and supportive presence, you will directly contribute to the child’s academic success and self-confidence.

Responsibilities

• Accompany the program worker to the school to pick up the children.

• Support a child aged 5 to 12 in reading age-appropriate books.

• Help the child answer reading comprehension questions.

• Check the child’s understanding of certain words encountered in the text and explain their meaning when needed.

• Share your knowledge and discuss interesting elements of the books being read.

• Encourage the child to develop good work habits (following routines, writing complete answers, taking care with handwriting).

• Support the child in respecting rules and structure, when necessary

Skills, Qualifications and Qualities

• Enjoy working with children, reading, and children’s literature.

• Good spoken and written French skills.

• Comfortable providing guidance and one-on-one support.

• Punctual, reliable, and committed.

• Patient, caring, and encouraging attitude.
