Your Role Activity Description Main Tasks of the Volunteer Profile Sought Commitment
Do you enjoy working with children and discovering new skills? Carrefour Parenfants is looking for a volunteer to accompany a group of children aged 5 to 12 during a woodworking introduction workshop, in collaboration with the École d’Ébénisterie d’Art de Montréal (ÉÉAM).
Over a period of 10 weeks, the children will learn the basics of woodworking: reading a plan, calculating the amount of materials needed, measuring, cutting, drilling, screwing, assembling, and finishing. They will discover different types of wood (softwood vs hardwood), wood grain orientation, the role of the grain pattern, and much more. Each child will build their own wooden clock from A to Z: sanding, varnishing, understanding and installing the mechanism, and using pyrography to personalize it. The workshop is led by a qualified woodworker, in the professional facilities of the ÉÉAM, and supported by a Carrefour Parenfants youth worker.
• Meet the youth worker at the organization at 3:00 p.m.
• Go with her to pick up the children at school.
• Accompany the group on public transit to the ÉÉAM.
• Help supervise the group during the woodworking workshop.
• Encourage the children, help them follow instructions, and support their active participation.
• Accompany the group back to the organization after the workshop.
• Enjoy working with children and feel comfortable in a dynamic environment.
• Able to support and guide a group with calm and kindness.
• Punctual, reliable, and motivated by a creative and unique activity.
• No woodworking experience required — only the desire to learn and help.
Every Thursday, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., from January 15 to April 2, 2026, except on March 5 and March 26, 2026.
