Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
My name is Alan and I’m an international student. I come from Cameroon and arrived in Canada a year ago. I’m currently living in Chicoutimi. I’m studying electrical engineering at CEGEP and I’ve just started my second semester.
How long have you been volunteering at the VBM and what is your role?
I’ve been a volunteer receptionist for over six months. As I live in Chicoutimi, I volunteer remotely. My role is to deal with e-mail requests and incoming calls. I refer people who need help with the VBM’s services.
What do you like about volunteering?
What I like most is seeing the satisfaction people feel when they get some support, especially when they are people in need, who want to be referred to services like Meals on Wheels, or wish to get involved as volunteers.
What are your plans for the future?
I’d like to continue my studies at university to pursue a career in electrical engineering.
