Training Manager

Are you passionate about training, knowledge transfer and partnership development? VBM is looking for an experienced person to lead and further develop its training offer, which is rooted in a broader vision of social transformation.

Main responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director, and working closely with a multidisciplinary team and a rich network of professional collaborators, you will:

  • Develop and enhance VBM’s training offer, updating it in line with the organization’s strategic directions and the needs of its audiences.

  • Design and deliver tools and activities to support volunteers and volunteer managers (trainings, workshops, online resources, practical tools, etc.).

  • Create, structure and coordinate consultation spaces and a community of practice for volunteer managers, regularly consulting stakeholders to document their needs, encourage mutual support and sharing of experiences, and break isolation, drawing on internal or external resources for facilitation when needed.

  • Support internal team members in structuring and implementing their own knowledge-transfer activities (workshops, documentation, tools, trainings linked to their sectors), to ensure a coherent and integrated approach to training practices across the organization.

  • Contribute to the training sector’s communication plan, to VBM’s social marketing strategy, editorial line and brand image, and to related strategic reflection exercises.

  • Build and maintain partnerships with organizations, institutions and other actors in the Montreal ecosystem, and represent VBM in various consultation and collaboration spaces.

  • Oversee the logistical and administrative coordination of training activities: recruitment and coordination of internal and external contributors, calendar, registrations, quotes and contracts, follow-up on invoicing and budgets.

  • Manage relationships with various partners and suppliers: project leads and collaborators for content development, external facilitators, partners for communications, graphic design, printing, translation, etc.

  • Monitor indicators related to training activities and their impact. Adopt a continuous improvement mindset and suggest adjustments to content and organization of the training sector where needed.

  • Contribute to cross-cutting team projects and participate in the organization’s strategic reflections.

Required skills and experience

  • University degree in education, project management, administration, communications, human resources or a related field.

  • Excellent command of spoken and written French. Professional level of English.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn and use a variety of digital tools (Office Suite, Google, Adobe, Canva, databases) and to adapt to new tools as needs evolve.

  • At least 3 years of experience in developing and managing similar programs.

  • Experience in training, teaching, group facilitation and/or leading communities of practice.

Personal qualities and professional stance

  • Strong interest in – or significant experience with – the Montreal community sector, volunteer action and social transformation issues, with the ability to understand this ecosystem, build trusted relationships and navigate it with sensitivity.

  • Demonstrated leadership, strong sense of responsibility and solid professional conduct, with sound ethical and political judgment, in line with VBM’s mission, messages and directions.

  • Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, and sensitivity to accessibility issues.

  • High level of autonomy and strong organizational skills.

  • Genuine ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative management environment, exercising full responsibility for one’s own area while knowing when to seek consultation, in a spirit of respect for each person’s role and expertise.

  • Strong client-service orientation and partnership-building skills. Ease in interacting with diverse stakeholders (volunteers, managers, partners, institutions and funders) with tact and diplomacy.
