Information, referral and advocacy serices for the multilingual community of Côte-des-Neiges in the areas of housing, welfare, pensions, family allowances, etc.
Volunteers who have experience receiving welfare and/or Social Solidarity are needed to join the organization's Welfare Dignity Action Group with the aim of improving the welfare system and helping combat prejudices against people living in poverty. Volunteers should be committed individuals who are interested in learning, sharing their experience and analysis of the welfare system and working together to create change.   • Volunteer intake workers needed for the organization's Individual Services Centre, a no-appointment and free-of-charge service that provides assistance with housing, welfare, pension and family allowance problems. Volunteers will help address people's needs by providing referrals, filling out intake forms and responding to those who request assistance by phone. Training is provided.   • Storefront volunteer advisors are needed to provide grassroots individual advocacy front-line services. During their four-hour weekly shift, volunteers meet with service users to provide information, referrals and individual advocacy services on topics ranging from housing to welfare, pensions to immigration. They inform people of their rights and help them to further acquire the knowledge and skills needed to be able to defend those rights. A two-month training period is provided for this position. A minimum six-month commitment is required afer training. Storefront advisors must be fluently bilingual in French and English, be good listeners and have a passion for social justice.
